EPL: You are important – Eriksen to Ronaldo, Casemiro, others over bench role

· Sports

Manchester United midfielder, Christian Eriksen has sent a message to the fringe players at the club.

The Brazilian midfielder, Casemiro, who arrived at Old Trafford from Real Madrid over the summer has found it difficult to start a Premier League following the outstanding performance of Scott McTominay.

Erik ten Hag prefers to partner McTominay and Eriksen in the midfield while Marcus Rashford leads the attack alongside Jadon Sancho and now Antony.

In defence, the Dutchman has kept faith with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, Diogo Dalot and Malacia meaning that the roles of club captain, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have been reduced to the bench.

It is the same story for Cristiano Ronaldo, who did not participate in the club’s pre-season tours.

But Eriksen believes every player in the squad is important and will be useful to the club since they have many competitions to play this season.

“[The whole squad] is going to be very important and I think this is a good year to have five substitutions – it will help the pressure on a lot of the players and also I think it will give the manager a few more options,” he told MUTV.

“The guys who have come on [in recent Premier League games] have done very well – they want to prove themselves. And also the guys that have been starting want to prove themselves.

“So it’s a good and a strong push that I think we need [from everyone] because we have a lot of games and there is a lot of quality in the team. So we all have to fight for our places.
